Radiant
Barrier Sheathing
TechShield
Radiant Barrier Sheathing represents the best in energy-efficient
building technology. With TechShield on the roof deck,
attics stay cooler, cooling loads are reduced, and energy
consumption goes down.
When radiant
energy from the sun strikes a surface, it is converted to
heat energy. A radiant barrier reflects radiant heat and
does not emit it to the cooler surfaces around it. The effectiveness
of a radiant barrier is determined by how much radiant heat
it reflects and how little heat energy it transmits - a property
called emissivity. Measured on a scale of zero to one, the
lower the emissivity, the more effective the radiant barrier.
The California
Energy Commission recently enacted revisions to Title 24
Energy Efficiency Standards that mandate the use of radiant
barriers on all new residential housing (when using the prescriptive
method of compliance) in specified "hot" zones.
